The Juniors were delighted to welcome back the British Red Cross to host a night of basic First Aid training. This year, the Boys were shown the basics of the Recovery position, and taught casualty scene management. The Boys then had their chance to show off what they had learned during the evening... The Boys and Staff would like to thank the British Red Cross for their informative and enjoyable evening.

 
Juniors head to Christmas Panto, SECC

Juniors enjoy a Night at Panto...

 

The Juniors rounded off their Autumn Session with a night at the Panto. The Boys enjoyed the lively performance of Sleeping Beauty at the SECC, with the characters of the evil Carabosse, Jammy and Betty Bakealot to the fore. Another fun outing for the Boys. As ever, many thanks to the Parents who helped with transport for this event.

Juniors attend Battalion Carol Service...

 

In this All Sections Battalion event, the Juniors enjoyed the lively Christmas Carol service which included a mixture of a Christmas challenge quiz, decorating the Christmas tree and, of course, carol singing. Many thanks to Abbotsford Parish Church, Clydebank for hosting and their post service hospitality. Also, thanks to the Parents and relatives who supported this Event.

After a busy Autumn session the 1st Year Boys, having achieved the required credits, were awarded their Juniors Target Award. The Boys covered subjects within the Juniors Award Programme under the headings of Body, Mind, Spirit, Community and Creativity to achieve this award. Well Done Boys !!

Battalion Swimming Gala at Vale of Leven Pool

Held at the Value of Leven Swimming pool, the Juniors took part in the annual Battalion Swimming gala. Our team of Boys competed well and managed to repeat the success of last year by coming in third. Well done to those Boys who took part, and thanks to the Parents who supported this event.

Juniors Bowl Them Over...

 

Juniors took time out from their busy Thursday night BB programme to enjoy a night at BowlPlex, Xscape on Thursday night. The entire Section racked the pins up, and the fun began. The Section's new recruits led the way early on with the scoring, however, a late rally by one of the Third Year Boys managed to put pay to the 'Young Guns'. Thanks to the Parents, as ever, for their support with this Outing.

Juniors Get Cooking...

 

Juniors got their sleeves rolled up in the kitchen this week. A true favourite, Chocolate Crispy Cakes were on the menu. The question has to be did any parents get to sample the Boys efforts, or did the Boys devour their chocolate Crispy Cakes before they got home ?? Mixed in with this night were Squad Games and an introduction to the Bible Knowledge competition passages.

 
Founder of the Boys Brigade nominated as People's Choice for 'The Greatest Scot'

The Greatest Scot... Sir William Alexander Smith

 

In this the year of Homecoming, STV will be profiling Sir William Alexander Smith, the Founder of the Boys' Brigade, as a Nominee in their TV documentary series "The Greatest Scot".

The TV series is set to go to air in the week beginning 9th November at 21:00, with Sir William Alexander Smith being profiled on Wednesday 11th November.

If you get the chance, take the opportunity to watch this episode to find out about the man who founded the Boys' Brigade. However, if you missed the TV broadcast, the profile of The Greatest Scot - Sir William Alexander Smith can now be viewed on the STV iPlayer under Part 4 of the broadcast.

 
New Squads for Session 2009/2010 announced

New Squads announced, Inter Squad Competition Gets Started !!

 

Following the appointment of the New Leading Boys, the new Squads for Session 2009/2010 were announced on Thursday night. From now on, the Inter-Squad Competition is RUNNING !!! The Squads will compete against one another on Attendance, Weekly Inspection and Inter-Squad Games.

Juniors have a 'Monster' time at Fancy Dress Party

 

From '118 - 118', Doctor Who, Ghostbusters, to i-Pod costumes the Juniors rose to the challenge of the Fancy Dress Night. The Boys took part in variety of Halloween themed games and activities including making 'Scary Monsters' and Marshmallow pumpkins and ghosts. Thanks to the parents for all their efforts with the Boys costumes.

Enrolment Parade - Session 2009/2010

 

The Company's Enrolment Parade this year was to Baljaffray Parish Church. The Rev. Dr Ian McEwan made the Boys from all 3 Sections feel most welcome and his address on the Bible will no doubt be a help for the Juniors in their forthcoming Bible Knowledge competition. Thanks to members of the Company's Pipe and Bugle Band for their efforts on the Parade. Also, thanks to the Parents who came and supported the Boys.

The Central Churches of Bearsden, to which 1st Bearsden are attached, take it turn to host and conduct Parade Services, such as our annual Enrolment Service. Later this Session, we will parade to another of the churches to which we are attached, Bearsden Cross Parish Church.

Juniors support 'Operation Christmas Child'

 

A BIG 'Thank You' to those who donated Gifts to the Juniors for the Boys efforts to support Samaritan's Purse 'Operation Christmas Child'. On the Thursday Meeting night Boys began the evening by watching a DVD on what lies behind 'Operation Christmas Child'. This was then followed by a Mass Shoebox 'Wrapping & Packing' frenzy !!! Juniors enjoy American Themed Evening

 

The Juniors were delighted to welcome Leaders from the Boys' & Girls' Brigade of the Fox Valley, Wisconsin to host our American Themed Night. The Boys were shown 2 presentation, 'The differences between Scotland & Wisconsin', and 'The differences between the Brigade in the US & Scotland'. With lots of questions, the Boys throughly enjoyed learning more about 'Brigade Life' across the Pond. The evening was rounded off by a games session of 'An introduction to the basics of American Football...' Definiately living out the dreams of Lambeau Field...!!!

The 1st Bearsden BBs new website was launched on Monday 13th July. It is hoped that the new format will be easier to use and will have the potential to offer more information.
