Pipe Band hit the right notes at National Championships |
The 1st Bearsden Pipe Band had unparalleled success at the 2012 Scottish National Band Championships. The pipers and drummers had success in each of the three competition categories - novice, contest and championship. After finishing first in the novice mini band category and third in the novice pipe band contest, the Boys from 1st Bearsden got the chance to compete in the Contest class. With the nerves settled, the band played magnificently and won the Contest class trophy. They then got promoted to the highest category, the Championship level, where they finished in third place. On top of this, the 1st Bearsden won the Drill and Deportment trophy for each of the three levels they played in, an extremely rare feat. Well done to everyone involved.

Seniors turn up the heat in the kitchen |
On the 17th February the Seniors donned their aprons and rolled up their sleeves to take part in a Ready Steady Cook challenge. Tasked to create two dishes, one with pork the other with minced beef, there was a wide variety of fayre served up. The Seniors could use as much or as little of the ingredients available to them as they wished - although one squad in particular later learned that there is such a thing as too much pepper in the burgers! Chilli burgers, meatballs in tomato sauce with pasta, grilled pork with apple sauce and peppered pork with couscous were just some of the dishes created.

1st Bearsden group visit the Hampden Stadium |
A group from the 1st Bearsden visited the Scottish national football stadium, Hampden Park, as part of a collaboration between BB Scotland and the Scottish Football Museum. The group got a behind the scenes tour of the stadium and managed to see the underground roadway where teams arrive on match-day, the home and away dressing rooms, the indoor football pitch and the technical areas pitch-side. Everyone also got a chance to test their kicking abilities at the Hot Shots section of the tour, where participants fire a ball at goals and its speed is measured electronically. A visit to the Scottish Football Museum and the Hall of Fame followed after the stadium tour.
