Bearsden Boys clean Burn and Car Park |
|
|   | ||
On Sunday 29th March, members of the 1st Bearsden Boys’ Brigade put on their wellies for a thorough clean-up of the Manse Burn and Glebe Car Park, where their hall is situated. Joined by Councillors Amanda Stewart and Duncan Cumming, the team of nineteen, armed with litter-pickers, managed to fill over twenty bin bags of rubbish that had steadily gathered over time.
While most of the litter was cans and plastic bags, some of the more interesting finds of the day included a wok, a barstool, a skateboard and even two ten pound notes. To finish the event, all of the participants had a helping of pies and sausage rolls which, given the fantastic weather, were eaten outside.

Packers Day | |
|   | ||
On Friday 3rd October Scott Crane, one of the leaders from Boys and Girls Brigade in Neenah Wisc. USA flew over to stay in Bearsden for a week. Scott was the special guest at our “Packers Day” on Sunday 5th October. The idea was to try and create the authentic atmosphere of an American Football game, with a bar b q, discuss tactics, a few practice sessions, then sit down and watch the Green Bay Packers live over the internet. Sadly the technology let us down, however we were able to watch a highlights DVD on the large screen. The day was very enjoyable and Scott was able teach us some of the finer points of the game. |

Annual Concert hits the road! | |
|   | ||
The Company Section had the tremendous honour to take their 75th Annual Concert “on the road” and put on a performance at Alloa Town Hall recently. This was for delegates to the 125th Boys’ Brigade Council meeting. It was a mammoth task and required a fantastic amount of team work with various site visits prior to the night. A seven and a half ton truck was necessary to move everything from Bearsden to Alloa. The boys worked particularly hard, rehearsals were held over the summer as there were some alterations from the March spectacular held in the BB Hall. Around 450 people from all over the UK were present on the night and the show was a spectacular success with the boys receiving a well deserved standing ovation. |
