Anchors learn about local Police
Local Police Officers Colin and Ashley visited the 1st Bearsden Anchors on the 25th March to tell them all about the job they do and the special equipment they use. The Boys got the chance to see some of the protective vests and handcuffs that the police carry and even got the chance to sit in a police car, flashing the lights and sounding the siren.
Next Captain of the 1st Bearsden announced
David Kelly, currently the Officer in
Charge of the Junior Section, has been confirmed as the next Captain of the Company and will be formally appointed when current Captain
Alistair Burrow retires in August of this year. David has been both a boy and an officer at the 1st Bearsden and will bring a wealth of
experience and vision to his new role.
Alistair became Captain in 2002 and under his tenure the Company has taken part in new and exciting activities and has been a visible
presence in both the local and BB community, living up to the motto "The Adventure starts here!". With Alistair standing down as Captain
and an officer in the Company, he has been nominated to serve as a Vice-President of the Boys' Brigade - a position that his vast level
of BB experience and knowledge will be well suited for. Congratulations to both David and Alistair.
Anchors Christmas Outing to Panto...
To round off their Autumn session, the Anchors' Christmas outing this year was to a performance of Robinson Crusoe, performed by the Bearsden
Cross Players. The Boys really enjoyed themselves, and was a great way for the Anchors to finish off a busy Autumn session.
The Anchors now break for the Holiday period, resuming on Friday January 14th 2011.
To the Boys and their families all Best Wishes for the Festive period, and for the New Year.
Christmas Market another Big Success...
A BIG 1st Bearsden 'Thank You' to all those who supported this Company fundraising event, to those who helped behind the scenes on the day and in the lead up to the event, and to those who bought tickets and braved the cold winter weather to come along on day. From the day, we managed to raise £ 1,800.
Anchors out on Parade
The Anchors were out in good numbers for the annual Company Enrolment Parade, supported well by family and friends
The parade was led, as ever, by the Company's Pipe and Bugle Bands. This year the Enrolment Parade was hosted by Bearsden Cross Church.
The Company were warmly welcomed by Mr Harris and the congregation
Bearsden Cross Church is part of the Central Churches of Bearsden,
to which 1st Bearsden are attached, and take it in turn to host and conduct Parade Services, such as our annual Enrolment Service.
Anchors 'Stars' attend Halloween Fancy Dress Party Night
The 'Stars walked down the Red carpet' to attend the Anchors Halloween Fancy Dress Party Night. There were guest appearances from JEDWARD, Harry Potter and Superman to name but a few. As part of the evening of fun, the Boys enjoyed their Halloween Obstacle Course : String Doughnut Eating Challenge; Fork Dunking for Apples and Marshmallow Flour Dip (See Picture below).
Opening Night - Session 2010/11
Friday Anchors held their Opening / Registration Night on Friday 27th August.
New members were warmly welcomed as well as the returning Boys from last Session.
Friday Night Anchors is now fully subscribed, and a Waiting List is operating.
